About Dr. Troiani
Dr. Emanuel Troiani is a compassionate and experienced neuropsychologist based in Southeastern Pennsylvania. He is dedicated to helping individuals of all ages—from children to older adults—understand and manage their unique cognitive and emotional challenges. With a doctorate from Immaculata University and advanced training in neuropsychology from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Drexel University College of Medicine, Dr. Troiani brings a wealth of knowledge to his practice.
Throughout his career, Dr. Troiani has worked closely with patients dealing with conditions such as epilepsy, stroke, brain injuries, learning differences, ADHD, autism, dementia and more. He has provided vital evaluations for heart and liver transplant candidates, and Deep Brain Stimulator implant patients, offering insights to medical teams on patients’ cognitive health and capacities. His experience includes providing care at hospitals, including Riddle Memorial and GrandView Hospital, as well as renowned facilities like Moss Rehab and Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital, where he was part of multidisciplinary teams helping patients recover from strokes and concussions.
At The Center for Neuroscience at Riddle Memorial Hospital, Dr. Troiani evaluated adults facing various forms of dementia as well as children with learning and behavioral challenges. He provided bedside evaluation on hospital units as well as comprehensive evaluations in the office setting and in long-term care facilities. His role as Director of Psychological and Neuropsychological Services from 2016 to 2021 highlights his leadership and commitment to patient care.
Now focusing on his private practice in Montgomery and Chester Counties in Pennsylvania, Dr. Troiani sees patients aged eight and older. He is committed to providing a supportive and affirming environment for all individuals, respecting gender and diversity. By leveraging his extensive experience, Dr. Troiani aims to uncover each patient’s unique strengths and needs, whether it’s a child with learning differences or an adult managing chronic illness. His goal is to offer patients and their families valuable insights and comprehensive recommendations that enhance their quality of life.
About Dr. Shephard
Dr. Shephard is a PA licensed psychologist and neuropsychologist with extensive experience working across the lifespan—from children and families to older adults navigating memory and cognitive challenges. Her approach is rooted in a strengths-based and neurodiversity-affirming perspective. She believes that everyone brings unique strengths to the table and aims to help individuals better understand themselves—whether that means exploring a student’s learning profile or making sense of changes in memory and thinking in older adulthood—while providing a clear and actionable roadmap for moving forward.
Dr. Shephard is committed to creating a supportive space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to share their stories. She approaches each evaluation with curiosity, compassion, and respect, with the goal of creating a meaningful and collaborative experience. She draws on input from clients, families, and other care providers to develop a comprehensive understanding of each individual’s unique circumstances.
She earned her doctorate in clinical psychology at Widener University, specializing in neuropsychology and school psychology. She began her postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at Neuropsychology Rehabilitation Services and completed it at Developmental Neuropsychology Associates. She continued to work as a neuropsychologist at Developmental Neuropsychology Associates, before joining the team at North Penn Neuropsychological Services. Dr. Shephard has provided neuropsychological evaluations in hospital, school, and community settings and has worked with diverse populations, including individuals with ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, and dementia. She has also worked in psychiatric rehabilitation with adults with serious mental illnesses and has provided trauma-focused psychotherapy, cognitive rehabilitation, and biofeedback.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Shephard has served as an adjunct faculty member at Widener University, teaching courses in neuroanatomy and neuropathology. Sharing her passion for understanding the brain and its complexities has been a rewarding part of her career.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Shephard enjoys hiking, biking, baking, listening to audiobooks, and tackling crafts or puzzles—often alongside her husband and spirited toddler. These moments of creativity and exploration fuel her work and remind her of the joy in discovery and connection.
About Dr. van Steenburgh
Dr. van Steenburgh is a licensed psychologist in PA, NJ, and DE. He has worked in clinical settings ranging from major tertiary care centers to residential living facilities to private practice. He has assessed and treated adults of all ages with a wide variety of conditions. He is passionate about working with older adults. In addition to conducting neuropsychological evaluations, he has provided cognitive remediation, education, support, and therapeutic services for older adults, their caregivers and their families. He has extensive experience evaluating and treating people with mild cognitive impairment, dementia, epilepsy, traumatic brain injuries, bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADHD, autism, and lead exposure. He believes that the practice of neuropsychology is not just about providing a snap shot of current functioning, but it is also a chance to coordinate care and to help people maximize their quality of life.
Dr. van Steenburgh completed his undergraduate work in psychology and neurosciences at Duke University. He earned a Master’s degree in Journalism from Temple University and subsequently reported on issues in medicine and epidemiology for the American College of Physicians and The Lancet. After several years as a journalist, he wanted to help people more directly. So, he pursued his love of psychology and earned his doctorate in Neuropsychology from Drexel University. He completed his internship in Neuropsychology at Vancouver Coastal Health in Vancouver, BC, and his post-doctoral fellowship at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. In addition to his clinical work, he has conducted research examining the electrophysiology of obesity and restrained eating, exploring functional connectivity in schizophrenia, and applying direct current stimulation to improve cognitive functioning in people with schizophrenia and autism.
Dr. van Steenburgh is originally from Bryn Mawr and he lives in Flourtown. His wife is a high school teacher and he has a daughter in college, another daughter in middle school, and a Maine Coon cat that is up to no good. He has travelled throughout the world and has lived in North Carolina, Denmark, Spain, England, and Canada. But every time he wanders away, Pennsylvania pulls him back in! He also enjoys diving/snorkeling, reading, writing, skiing, hiking in the Wissahickon and Adirondacks, playing pool, watching movies and sports and having fun with friends and family.
About Dr. Haughey
Joseph Haughey, Psy.D., is a clinical neuropsychologist who provides comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations to children, adolescents, and adults. He specializes in the assessment and diagnosis of neurodevelopmental, psychiatric, and neurological conditions, with particular expertise in Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and emotional/behavioral disorders that impact cognitive functioning. He is trained in the ADOS-2, a gold-standard instrument used in the evaluation of autism spectrum disorder.
Dr. Haughey recently joined North Penn Neuropsychological Services and is committed to providing highly individualized, patient-centered care. He emphasizes thoughtful diagnostic problem-solving to ensure clinical clarity and meaningful understanding of each patient’s strengths and challenges. His approach is focused on helping patients and families leave the evaluation process with a clear, actionable plan and practical next steps. Prior to joining the practice, Dr. Haughey spent five years at The Center for Neuroscience in Delaware County, where he conducted comprehensive evaluations, delivered feedback, and collaborated with multidisciplinary providers to support effective treatment planning across the lifespan.
He completed his postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at Neuropsychology Rehabilitation Services/Lifespan (Tinton Falls, NJ), an AABN-approved training site, where he worked with both pediatric and adult populations presenting with a wide range of neurological, medical, and psychiatric conditions. His training also includes a predoctoral internship at Rowan University Counseling and Wellness Center and specialized pediatric neuropsychology experience at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.
Dr. Haughey earned his Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from Immaculata University. He also holds a master’s degree in clinical/counseling psychology from Chestnut Hill College and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kutztown University. Earlier in his career, he worked as a psychometrician at the Drexel Institute for Neuroscience and Capital Health Institute for Neuroscience, further strengthening his foundation in neuropsychological assessment.
Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Haughey is an avid Philadelphia Sports Fan (Go Birds!), enjoys listening to audiobooks, collecting comics, and spending time outdoors. He resides in Bucks County with his wife, an autistic support teacher for the Hatboro-Horsham School District, and two very active children.
